ECAII Seminar on Sharing Engineering & IT Sector Excellence between Indonesia and India

Inaugurating the event Amol Titus, Honorary Secretary ECAII and CEO of IndonesiaWISE, highlighted the pivotal role being played by the Engineering and IT sectors in India and their growing contribution to India’s GDP in a consistent, relatively recession proof manner. Bapak Budi Dharmadi, Secretary General Ministry of Industry overseeing Transportation & ICT Sector, outlined the Government of Indonesia’s blueprint for engineering and related sectors and stressed the various investment opportunities in these fields. M Kulkarni from TVS made a presentation on India’s innovative automotive sector and TVS’ investment and growth plans in Indonesia. UN Khanna from BHEL highlighted India’s strengths in heavy engineering and capital goods and the plans of the company to tap increasing opportunities in the power sector. Tony Seno from Microsoft shared valuable insights on the Government’s architecture for promoting the IT sector and interface with the government entities and stressed that there were many areas of collaboration with Indian IT firms and solutions providers. Suranjan Banerjee from TCS elaborated on the vast array of expertise available with the company and its plans to progressively expand their Indonesian operations. Mrs Pratibha Parkar, First Secretary E&C, Embassy of India, thanked ECAII for organizing such sector specific events and shared information on some of the large trade & commerce events being planned during the course of 2009. It was agreed that ECAII will collect suggestions and feedback from engineering and IT sectors and forward it to Ministry of Industry and the Investment Coordinating Board to facilitate increased investment. Equally, the vast opportunities in India’s booming domestic economy were also emphasized so that Indonesian companies can accelerate their plans for setting up India focused operations.
